For Info-Tech’s head office consisting of renovated and adaptive reuse heritage buildings in the west end of London’s downtown, the landscape architectural design was most importantly a hardscape exercise for the gated courtyard. Permeable pavers organize the multi-purpose courtyard with parking spaces and a defined pedestrian route to the main entrance. The owner treasured the existing Boston Ivy growing up a few the exterior walls, so protection measures and layout adjustments were undertaken for its preservation and visual prominence. Due to the prevalent social issues throughout the downtown, the owner’s request for no groundcovers was translated into rubber mulch to blanket the planting beds with Maidenhair trees.
