As part of the City of London’s streetscape improvement strategy for hosting the World Figure Skating 2013 Championships, planters themed around the event were envisioned for the downtown. White iconic ‘flowerpots’, with their large scale and glowing presence at night, provided visually straightforward and unifying elements that contributed to enhancing the public realm. The temporary display included evergreen shrubs decorated with stencil painted patterns in the event’s colours; purple, silver and white. The planters have since been utilized by the downtown business association for seasonal displays.
