The existing framework of an ordinary front yard for a house with estate scale and charm called for form and function refinements. The circular asphalt driveway and restrictive curbs were replaced with seamless unit paving and a renewed planting scheme that unifies the frontage. Serviceberry, Redbud, Baltic Ivy, Liriope, Boxwood, Yew and Maiden grasses organize the space providing focal points, balance and harmony with an appealing and calm planting approach. A low profile rail fence offers a good neighbour edge and a custom gate is a welcoming threshold with tantalizing glimpses into the backyard.

An outdated and problematic backyard required re-thinking and major renovations to update the elements and resolve new programme requirements for a young and active family. Collaboration with the builder and interior designer resulted in a pavilion housing an exercise room, washroom and storage area connected to the house by a covered dining and entertainment space. Upgrades to the existing pool area include a fireplace, spa, seatwalls and additional space for entertaining and a growing family. The classic landscape design with a subtle green emphasis that incorporates Chanticleer Pear, Dogwood, Redbud, Yew and Spirea, Liriope and Japanese Spurge, establishes a lush garden with a sophisticated simplicity.
