The healing garden, for staff respite, is a calming environment constructed of natural and warm materials. A meandering walkway navigates through the courtyard traversing gravel planes and connecting architectural elements with a simple planting scheme consisting of soft hues and scents that together reinforce a place of serenity and retreat. The staff ‘picnic’ patio has a structured configuration with flexible gathering spaces that are formed by shifting and staggered evergreen hedges, strategic tree-lines for shade, and geometric blocks of colourful perennials and ornamental grasses. The pixelated paving pattern adds a sense of lightness and movement to the spatially defined compartments and unifies the courtyard.
